I finished the Detoxification film and was greatly relieved that the footage was okay, having not seen any for the better part of six weeks. After some tussles with Final Cut Pro X I sent it off to the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art in Sunderland. Show Me The Money is a fantastic show with some real heavy hitters – generallly, amazing company to be in: great work by Cornford and Cross, Molly Crabapple, William Powhida, David Stedham and others, not to mention a hundred trillion dollar note from Zimbabwe, just before they gave up on their currency and went over to the US dollar. Interestingly, I seem to be one of only four (off the top of my head) women in the exhibition.
First time I’ve been in a show reviewed by national media, including both the FT and the Morning Star, as well as the BBC and Radio 3. It also made it to the Guardian Guide, taking second billing only to Marina Abramovic. There’s an excellent exhibiiton website as well as the NGCA’s own website.
Of course there’s always things that can be done better – a better render of the film, displaying it portrait (for the next venue I hope), reshooting it with a camera that will film through the night, filming over a longer periods (I got a second flush of mushrooms after the filming had stopped).
